Football Fridays with Chris Harris Jr & Brandon Krisztal

Defense Dominant in Win Over Raiders | Football Fridays with CHJ & BK

Episode Summary

The Broncos keep rolling — now 8-2 after a gritty Thursday night win over the Raiders. Brandon Krisztal and Chris Harris Jr. break down how Denver’s defense completely shut down Las Vegas, why Sean Payton’s offense continues to stall, and how Bo Nix can clean up his inconsistencies heading into a massive matchup with the Chiefs. From Vance Joseph’s pressure packages to Sean’s play-calling miscues, BK and CHJ go deep on what’s working, what’s not, and what’s next for the AFC West leaders.

Episode Notes

The Broncos’ defense dominated again — six sacks, relentless pressure, and another game without giving up a touchdown. Brandon and Chris dive into why the Raiders’ game plan failed, how Nik Bonitto and Zach Allen led the charge, and what Sean Payton admitted about “looking at the wrong section” of his play sheet. They also highlight the continued offensive issues — penalties, lack of rhythm, and underused weapons like Courtland Sutton — while giving credit to Bo Nix and the O-line for keeping the team steady. With Kansas City looming, they assess how Denver stacks up in the AFC and why this defense could carry them deep into January.

00:00:02:04 - 00:00:25:27

Brandon Krisztal

Well, your Broncos may not have been pretty, but they are eight and two. The first eight win team in the NFL. This season. Two wins in just four days. And we will talk about it all because Chris Harris junior joins me every week at this time. Football Fridays starts now.

00:00:25:29 - 00:00:42:25

Brandon Krisztal

Chris, we don't have to spend a lot of time on the Texans because we just had a second game last night. But as it sits here, your Denver Broncos. Most of our viewers Denver Broncos eight wins eight and two. And once they beat the Eagles I thought they could get to eight and two. I think I said it to you I said it on TV.

00:00:42:27 - 00:00:58:27

Brandon Krisztal

But to see it now come to fruition. We'll break down and how the offense looks and how the game unfolded. But general view, if I would have told you heading into the year, Broncos will be eight and two before they play the Chiefs through their first ten games. Would you believe me?

00:00:59:00 - 00:01:18:19

Chris Harris Jr

Probably not. Just by looking at their schedule, you know, I definitely count one. Probably. You know, if I'm looking at the beginning. Yeah, I probably would have kind of the Texans game. The Eagles game? Probably, probably slept one more game in there, but. But to be eight and two at this time is great. Seven game win streak.

00:01:18:21 - 00:01:44:17

Chris Harris Jr

Is extremely hard to do in the NFL to win three game two games in a row is extremely hard. So, doesn't matter how ugly it is, they're getting the job done. And, you know, now now it's time for the championship games, you know, to finish strong. And, you know, now you have a big opportunity to, when the AFC West, which hasn't been won, but any other team other than the Chiefs since, you know, the past nine years.

00:01:44:17 - 00:01:50:12

Chris Harris Jr

So this is a big, big deal big opportunity ahead. And I'm excited for them boys.

00:01:50:14 - 00:02:10:15

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah yeah I guess no other way to look at it. Then you play the schedule that that you're dealt because people said oh they haven't had the tough schedule. The Patriots schedule has been even easier. And we're going to get to kind of the rest of the league a little later as we look at the weekend. The Ravens are about they're real off, I think a bunch of wins because their schedule has softened up and they're getting healthy at the right time.

00:02:10:17 - 00:02:27:09

Brandon Krisztal

But it hasn't always been pretty Sunday being a good example, they knocked C.J. Stroud out of the game, but they're able to keep Davis, Mills and the Texans in check. Get out of there with the win. And then I thought that they would have an easier time scoring against the Raiders, having nothing to do with how bad the Raiders offense is.

00:02:27:09 - 00:02:43:12

Brandon Krisztal

And you took away their best wide receiver, their most productive wide receiver. But I just didn't think their defense beyond Max Crosby has been very good. And you could tell last night, you know, I was down on the field helping Westwood One out. So I'm listening to the radio call with Kevin Coogler and our pal Ryan Harris, who you, of course, talked to every week on we're the Harrises.

00:02:43:18 - 00:03:01:08

Brandon Krisztal

And every time something happened like, that's his first sack of the season. That's his first interception of his career. That's the first act that that guy's had since week two. That's just the 10th sack, you know. You know, it was like it it kept happening. His first because the Raiders defense hadn't been good. So let's let's drill down on last night's game.

00:03:01:10 - 00:03:19:24

Brandon Krisztal

Why do you think the Raiders had more success. Was it that the Raiders were doing something to to the Broncos. And there wasn't an admission that they change some things up or that the Broncos were just ineffective? Mind you, was Joe Woods on that defensive side of the ball helping out. And Marcus Robertson some guys that you obviously know pretty well.

00:03:19:26 - 00:03:36:05

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Yeah. You know they have great coaches over there. You know like the names that you just say. And the secondary is going to be well coached. They're going to be well prepared. Patrick grabs a solid, dig for Nader. He has a lot of experience in this league. Like both said, they made it very hard on them.

00:03:36:05 - 00:03:59:01

Chris Harris Jr

You know, he gave the, Raiders defense a lot of credit. And Crosby, you know, he's going to have those guys humming. It's a it's a, rivalry game. So when you play the Raiders, you play the Chiefs, the Chargers, anything can happen. So, it's good to always get a win. And, you know, I think over the past, you know, a couple of years you know the Raiders have pretty much owned us to right.

00:03:59:04 - 00:04:08:08

Chris Harris Jr

All know what our record is. But I don't think it's very good versus the Raiders. So to get a win over them and a rivalry game regardless of what the score was we'll take it.

00:04:08:11 - 00:04:28:27

Brandon Krisztal

The so the Raiders moved to Vegas I believe five seasons ago. And since they moved to Vegas they were they had real off eight straight wins against the Broncos in that four year stretch last year. The Broncos get the sweep because they had the big win here where remember it's ten three. Bowers has that first touchdown. If that doesn't undercut that route and take it to the house it's 17 to 3.

00:04:29:04 - 00:04:48:22

Brandon Krisztal

And who knows. Last year's Broncos weren't this year's Broncos in terms of their their captain comeback story. And so yeah that would have extended the streak. Instead it snapped the streak. Then they go to Vegas and obviously get the win in in November and and sweep them on the year. And so it's now a couple of wins in a row for the Broncos.

00:04:48:22 - 00:05:04:27

Brandon Krisztal

Make that three. But it was eight in a row. Like we made such a big deal about the 15 to the Chiefs. But they were led by a Hall of Fame quarterback, a Hall of Fame tight end, Hall of Fame defensive lineman, Hall of Fame coach and a team that's going to the Super Bowl every year. The Raiders should not have won a the Raiders should never win eight against the Broncos.

00:05:05:04 - 00:05:20:12

Brandon Krisztal

Just like I'm sure folks in Raiders you know Raider Nation. I'll tell you the Broncos should never win eight against the Raiders. Even when one teams even when there's a gap, it's still to I mean you guys were much better than them in the in the Peyton Manning era. And they still gave you games.

00:05:20:14 - 00:05:38:29

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah yeah I mean oh it's always I mean they had talent though. Come on. Now we look at the receiver corps of Mark Cooper Crabtree in their prime. You know they still have some solid guys on the defensive side. They had I mean the Raiders back when I was playing they had a whole o lineman. It was like 330 plus.

00:05:39:01 - 00:06:03:17

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. One year right. They were huge man. So this is not the same Raiders team that when I even when I was playing even though they weren't you know a top team they were better than these teams. And right now you know their main guy that they have is a Bowers. And I think, you know, we've done a great job of, shutting down, these tight ends week to week.

00:06:03:17 - 00:06:19:17

Chris Harris Jr

And Ben's done a great job, but they he only got loose one time. And we'll going to go through that play. But, you know, we're eliminating their guys. We did a solid job on JT. I think he had like, three yards per carry. That's solid. But, you know, we we just need some more offense.

00:06:19:17 - 00:06:21:18

Chris Harris Jr

We need some more points.

00:06:21:20 - 00:06:45:29

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. How about this number, though, from last night? This comes courtesy of out the stats. It's only happened twice. Ever in 40 years, where one team has had ten penalties. More penalties than points, more penalties than first downs. An entire quarter without a first down under 100 rushing yards, under 150 net passing yards and a missed field goal.

00:06:46:01 - 00:07:05:28

Brandon Krisztal

It's happened twice and it was both teams last night. So it it never happened. And then both teams checked every one of those boxes. You know the Broncos because Sean always talks about playing in the in the standalone games. And so he likes he likes an extra Thursday night game like they got last year against the Chargers. Likes the the European games.

00:07:05:28 - 00:07:38:01

Brandon Krisztal

Wanted to be the first to play in Berlin. Like we're going to have this weekend with Colts and Falcons. Doesn't mind Thursday Night Football other than the compressed schedule, but both teams deal with that now twice. When you look at that London game and this game when everybody's watching, the Broncos are leaving plenty to be desired. So let's maybe drill down on the offense and Sean Payton and what what his offense is struggling to do, whether it be against the good Texans defense or we think an average at best Raiders even I mean, they are kind of average or middle of the pack and kind of every stat.

00:07:38:03 - 00:07:42:14

Brandon Krisztal

Why do you think this offense continues to be so inconsistent.

00:07:42:17 - 00:08:02:05

Chris Harris Jr

They just can't get in a rhythm. And I think right now, you know, we're trying to do a lot of make a lot of gadget plays, a lot of screens, short, quick passes. And, you know, and we're getting behind on the sticks, we're not getting a lot of yards on those first downs. First down is not very good for us right now.

00:08:02:07 - 00:08:26:08

Chris Harris Jr

We must improve on first down plays, right? We got to find a way to get the ball to Cortland more. You know, four targets. It's not enough for him. I think Colin needs to be in the ten, you know, 8 to 10 target range. And we're not there right now. You know, he's getting 3 to 4, and I just don't like that, you know, in this office, I think as him being the guy, the vet, he needs a little bit more touches.

00:08:26:11 - 00:08:45:19

Chris Harris Jr

Also, you know, of course we miss Mims losing a guy. That's a big play threat. And our offense, we clearly see that we need him. So, we got to get better, with throwing the ball down the field. And I've been saying this all year, most of us can improve on his touch, right? Maybe his interception.

00:08:45:19 - 00:09:04:09

Chris Harris Jr

Interception? He did, though if he threw it a little bit softer, you know, maybe catches that ball. But you know, and get a little bit more consistent with the run game early. You know, Dobbins got rolling a little bit later, but we got to get that in the first half. So there's a lot of things on the offense they can do to improve.

00:09:04:10 - 00:09:15:07

Chris Harris Jr

And I'm pretty sure they're not satisfied at all. And they see manned the defense is what they're doing out here outshining them. And I'm going to you it motivates them.

00:09:15:09 - 00:09:36:28

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. And that's something, you know, and we'll hear from Mike McGlinchey in a minute because he alluded to that. But just looking at why we think the offense isn't working. Before we hear from some of these principles, we're gonna hear from Sean. We're gonna hear from Jake Dobbins. We're gonna hear from Bo Nix as well. Before we get into how good the defense has been, their numbers, they're the most penalized team in the league, period.

00:09:37:00 - 00:09:56:17

Brandon Krisztal

But they also, as part of that, are the most penalized teams on first, most penalized team on first and second down. And that's something Sean talked about. Yeah. Is you know, you're behind the sticks. That as much as anything you talk about Bo missing on the throws, not getting caught involved, not sticking to the run. That to me is probably the biggest head scratcher.

00:09:56:17 - 00:10:13:06

Brandon Krisztal

I bet if we ask Sean Payton to be honest, what is bothering you the most? And he'd probably say, oh my play calling, but or even Bo's throws or Bo's decision making, it's going to be penalties because Sean like Bill Belichick, like the hard nosed veteran coaches that we know, Pete Carroll I think would fall into this category.

00:10:13:12 - 00:10:28:15

Brandon Krisztal

Seattle teams weren't the most penalized the way we know the Raiders always are. What do you think is the the reason or reasons why this Broncos team continues to just show a lack of discipline, especially on first and second down offensively?

00:10:28:17 - 00:10:52:02

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah, you you would hope not to see that Ryan would a veteran O-line crew. But you know, it's happening and maybe still you know, both second year in guys getting the cadence, getting his, you know, play count that he usually likes to go with his, you know, his Omaha, as Payton was saying. You know, everybody kind of knew the timing on that, right?

00:10:52:02 - 00:11:12:23

Chris Harris Jr

So when when guys are all on the same page, you have less penalties. So maybe we might want to make that snap count. Easier. Make it simplify some things on offense to where guys can play a little bit faster. Stop having a lot of penalties. And you know, because when you hear other guys talk about a sound paying offense, right, it's very complex.

00:11:12:23 - 00:11:33:04

Chris Harris Jr

Even just giving out a play call, it's very hard to do. Right. Let's make it a little bit simpler so guys can play fast, especially early in the game because, you know, we're far behind on the sticks. So that would be my game plan. Let's go out here and let's come up with a simple game plan to start us off and try to see if we can stay above the sticks and get improve on first.

00:11:33:04 - 00:11:34:05

Chris Harris Jr

Then.

00:11:34:07 - 00:11:59:03

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, I'd be a little nervous heading into the Chiefs game that Sean and he's probably been prone to this, although I don't know if he necessarily has here. You know, Andy Reid will do some silly stuff too that like the two of them are trying to show off for one another. I go back to two years ago when Russell Wilson said on Thursday night that 19 to 9 game and they're in the red zone and they motion Patrick out to snap it to Kadarius Toney, who of course gets tackled in the backfield.

00:11:59:05 - 00:12:17:15

Brandon Krisztal

And it always takes me back to I know it's not apples to apples that Donovan McNabb when Mike Vick came along. He's like why are you going to take me as the Pro Bowl quarterback off the field to put Vick in? But I'm thinking, why are you taking an MVP off the field or out of the play in the red zone when he can just throw it to Kelce or or whomever to let Kadarius Toney take a snap?

00:12:17:15 - 00:12:35:03

Brandon Krisztal

And I'm glad the Broncos, you know, jumped on that. One point being these guys can get a little too cute. We saw well real quick before here from Sean that third third and one what we thought trick play was going to be a Cortland. Throw his body and throw it. Sean's defense of it was well we had it up for a couple of weeks.

00:12:35:03 - 00:12:48:05

Brandon Krisztal

Here it is. It's a little bonus film clip. We had it up for a couple of weeks. We know how teams act on third down. Right. You can show me what the Raiders are doing as we look through this. They're not backing off on third and one.

00:12:48:08 - 00:12:49:09

Chris Harris Jr

No.

00:12:49:12 - 00:12:52:25

Brandon Krisztal

And so on second down.

00:12:52:27 - 00:13:11:15

Chris Harris Jr

That's all our blitz. And then you know when you play sound Peyton usually going to see the running back go to the flat. You're going to have some type of bootleg right. Somebody's coming in motion to the flat. And you know, right here, I think they could have ran the ball. I think it could have been a simple play run, play, run the football.

00:13:11:15 - 00:13:31:12

Chris Harris Jr

Try to get this third and one, or come out, you know, put him in spread, run a quarterback, run with Bo. Use his legs and his play making ability and third downs. But this play was garbage play. Especially, you don't you don't run those type of plays on a third down like that. Right? Right.

00:13:31:15 - 00:13:52:02

Chris Harris Jr

It's kind of, you run those on like a trick. You're just trying to get in that trick play time when I was, say, like a sudden change, like, oh, man, we got we got a turnover. We're hurrying up. You know the defense discombobulated. Now we'll run a trick play. But now you know you don't run it. When everybody said it's clearly third and one.

00:13:52:02 - 00:14:08:13

Chris Harris Jr

It's a huge play third quarter right. Everybody's awareness is very high. So I, I didn't like the play call right there. And I'm pretty sure that, he, he would probably, you know, probably thought when his rollout passes, if he had another chance.

00:14:08:15 - 00:14:31:27

Brandon Krisztal

Well, and we also had an admission from Sean last night. I'm trying to find the quote, but basically, he said that he was looking at the wrong side of his play sheet on third down most of the game. So, yeah, he goes, you know, eight penalties that start there. You take those penalties. Hey, I felt like it was a night when it was third down, and I was looking on the wrong section of the third down sheet.

00:14:31:29 - 00:14:40:13

Brandon Krisztal

And when you're over there too much, it becomes difficult. So that's an admission by him that it was his fault nonetheless. You know, we had it in Minnesota.

00:14:40:16 - 00:14:44:17

Chris Harris Jr

Did he give up the calls in play calls? He he's not.

00:14:44:17 - 00:15:00:05

Brandon Krisztal

Happy with the operation. The Mac asked him that a couple of weeks ago. Would you consider he said no, we're happy with the operation. So no, Joe Lombardi or Davis Webb calling the plays anytime soon, or Pete Carmichael. Not yet at least. But maybe there's a. Hey, coach, are you on the right section is the third downs.

00:15:00:08 - 00:15:21:05

Brandon Krisztal

There has to be like, he trusts those guys, especially Joe and Pete. So, so, so much so that they keep coming back when they leave for other jobs. And so he's not going to fire them if they if they check him, not even question and just say, hey coach, are we good on this. Are you sure. Like that's why he has those guys around forever is because he trusts them and knows they're loyal.

00:15:21:05 - 00:15:38:08

Brandon Krisztal

They're not trying to grandstand or show him up. But, Sean was mad at mad at himself. Well, here, let's let's see him last night. You can catch a saltiness. This is Luca Evans, who's I think about 24 years old, but he he doesn't have any problem. Going at it with coach a little bit. Sean, again.

00:15:38:08 - 00:15:41:10

Chris Harris Jr

You know, as you've said, your record says who you are.

00:15:41:10 - 00:15:46:19

Speaker 3

Exactly. Right. But but you're going to say. But we know what your question.

00:15:46:21 - 00:15:47:19

Brandon Krisztal

Are you comfortable with the.

00:15:47:19 - 00:15:48:18

Chris Harris Jr

Script of just.

00:15:48:18 - 00:15:49:24

Brandon Krisztal

Kind of how these games.

00:15:49:24 - 00:16:17:00

Speaker 3

Can be won as coaches? But there's no buts. So you're asking my comfortable as a coach? We're never satisfied. If my answer were to you, I'm comfortable. That'd be silly. Right. So, obviously we gotta we gotta we gotta clean up the penalties. We had to clean up some of the execution, and, and and that is an ongoing thing that probably never ends.

00:16:17:00 - 00:16:40:09

Speaker 3

There's, you know. You sure you search for that? Shangri la. Right now, you know, we're a team sitting at eight wins. I think, we're the only team sitting there. So, and yet we're we're constantly looking, internally, you know, but that was a it was a tough night offensively, obviously. And, and,

00:16:40:12 - 00:16:58:28

Speaker 3

You know, and I give them credit, you know, they did they did some things differently that we hadn't seen. And and you know, you start looking at your call sheet with your sub plan and so we'll look at that tape and we'll learn from it. We always will.

00:16:59:01 - 00:17:16:02

Brandon Krisztal

All right. No, but you know. Hey. No buts. But yeah. And I'm glad he was. It was a good job by Luke on the fly. So are you happy with your script or how the script is? And I appreciate it. I was like, no, let me. No one's ever comfortable. I'd be crazy. But you mean you played for Sean?

00:17:16:05 - 00:17:21:06

Brandon Krisztal

What do you think about just where his, head's at following these last couple games? Or, you know, let's just.

00:17:21:06 - 00:17:42:14

Chris Harris Jr

A man looks stressed, you know? And, you know, a lot of weight is on him. He's the offensive genius. He's the offensive guru. He's the one that's supposed to be able to mold and develop the quarterbacks and the offense. They brought him over here to do that. So when the offense isn't performing like this, performing this way for the whole season, that a lot of that pressure falls on him.

00:17:42:14 - 00:18:06:07

Chris Harris Jr

So I'm pretty sure he's definitely not comfortable. It's very hard to be comfortable in the NFL, regardless of if you're a coach or player. So you're always uncomfortable. And those, especially with the high pressure situations and, decision making that you have to make. But, a lot of those, the onus comes on him. Right. Vance Joseph is doing his thing.

00:18:06:09 - 00:18:28:09

Chris Harris Jr

Well, we'll get this. He'll probably be a head coach somewhere next year. I have an opportunity right to 100. It's gonna be 100. College coaches open in the NFL. Coaches open. So, I'm pretty sure Vance going to have an opportunity somewhere. And, so we'll get a good look next year, right? When Vance is gone. And we can see if he can really, truly run the show and the way that he wants to.

00:18:28:11 - 00:18:33:21

Chris Harris Jr

But right now, you know, the offense you know, we definitely need them guys. Pick it up for sure.

00:18:33:23 - 00:18:55:09

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. And so let's roll through a couple more clips here because that was the sentiment. This has happened far too many times this season for their liking. Considering the defense going back to to Sunday has had four games without allowing a touchdown. But let's start with JK Dobbins. As I think he's talking to a group. But Scotty Gaines is engaged with them from from channel nine.

00:18:55:15 - 00:18:59:29

Brandon Krisztal

Here's here's JK Dobbins on what he thought about the offense last night.

00:19:00:01 - 00:19:08:15

Speaker 3

Were much better than where we were. Would he, the defense is constantly each week holding us, holding it, holding us in.

00:19:08:15 - 00:19:10:07

Chris Harris Jr

The game and.

00:19:10:09 - 00:19:22:23

Speaker 3

Just got to do better. Like, Yeah, that's like, I'm, I'm with the families. Like Broncos country, Broncos country. I feel y'all because I'm feeling the same way, you know, like, we have a team that we could like, we.

00:19:22:23 - 00:19:25:00

Chris Harris Jr

Shouldn't be a game, like.

00:19:25:03 - 00:19:47:02

Brandon Krisztal

Okay. Yeah, they they they should be more consistent. You appreciate his honesty, but there's gotta be some frustration there, too, when you know how it is running back receiver. It's dependent to some degree. I realize he had 18 carries last night, but what can he do as a leader who's come in? And I mean, that's one of things we talk about or that Sean certainly talks about is the bonus.

00:19:47:02 - 00:19:53:06

Brandon Krisztal

Was his leadership like they knew the kind of player he was and he's played like what we thought he might when healthy.

00:19:53:08 - 00:20:13:04

Chris Harris Jr

It comes on the leader too, right. When you're when an eight, seven games in a row, it might feel like you're invincible, but the way they're doing it, I think it's good that they're winning these tight games and not just killing people. And, you know, they have ways that they can, they say after the game, there's 100 things they can do to improve on and work.

00:20:13:04 - 00:20:41:27

Chris Harris Jr

All right. So it's keeping them hungry as they go through a seven game win streak, keeping those guys locked in. And once they get it click in. That I mean right now is when that time when you have to know in a November, December, you got to be, riding high on offense, confidence, knowing, knowing the plan, knowing what we got, knowing the guys that we can count on going into these games because the games, the stakes get higher and higher and you got to and you got to play better and better as you go.

00:20:41:27 - 00:21:02:05

Chris Harris Jr

So right now, the offense right now, I would not be confident going into the playoffs with this, you know, penalties. Not being able to run the run the ball every week on a consistent basis. Not having a true key guy like we want him to be the guy, but we're not giving him the targets that he needs every week.

00:21:02:07 - 00:21:11:02

Chris Harris Jr

So, we got to get a lot better in a hurry to be able to, make a strong, strong push in the playoffs because we want to be you.

00:21:11:04 - 00:21:22:26

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. No, I'm right there with you. And so is Mike McGlinchey, one of the veteran leaders on the team. And I think he was even more pointed in his comments than JC Dobbins. So here's the big right tackle.

00:21:22:29 - 00:21:43:04

Speaker 3

A couple turnovers. That was tonight. But over the last stretch of things, when we get in lulls offensively, it doesn't really seem like it's not like we're taking sacks. It's not like we're turning the ball over at alarming rates. It's not like we're having huge negative plays. We're just not doing. We're not capitalizing on what we need to do.

00:21:43:04 - 00:22:01:12

Speaker 3

And there's opportunities there. You know, obviously there's there's some looks tonight that we, we, we weren't expecting certainly late in the game when they started playing base to sub. That makes it really difficult to kind of stay on track. And certainly, I mean, AJ Cole was on his way to being the MVP of the game.

00:22:01:13 - 00:22:20:20

Speaker 3

He pinned us in the one like three times. And it makes it really, really difficult to, operate normally offensively when that happens. So, a lot of weird things that happened tonight, but unacceptable to only walk away here with ten points and with the way our defense is playing. And like I said, we'll be better for it.

00:22:20:22 - 00:22:22:06

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah, yeah.

00:22:22:08 - 00:22:38:09

Brandon Krisztal

I believe him, I guess. I think you have no choice but to believe. You talk about the plan. And, you know, we can look ahead to the Chiefs here in just a few minutes because we're going to hear from Bo Nix next and then flip to the defense and get into the film room. But this schedule does kind of set up well to get out of there with the win.

00:22:38:12 - 00:22:51:05

Brandon Krisztal

Whatever your Thursday night game happens, see. But you get the mini bye and you're feeling good about it because Sean's going to give them off no matter what. It's not like if they lost they were in today. They're getting the days off. The Chiefs are off this week, but that gives you a good week to get like Monday.

00:22:51:05 - 00:23:07:08

Brandon Krisztal

You're not I know they'll go over this a little bit but Monday they'll be in the Chiefs like they'll be early on. Chiefs. And then you get the Chiefs. Then you get the bye and then you go to DC after Thanksgiving. Yeah. So it's setting up to be especially knowing that you're going to see the Chiefs again in a month on Christmas or five, six weeks.

00:23:07:10 - 00:23:10:18

Brandon Krisztal

And you're not going to have as much time to get ready for him.

00:23:10:21 - 00:23:28:01

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Oh man. Good thing it's a tease. You're very familiar with them. That's why they kind of make these games like that. At the end of the year. And, these are going to be crucial games, right? Even the Chiefs, they saying the Broncos win. You know, they got to come out and get a win this weekend.

00:23:28:04 - 00:23:51:02

Chris Harris Jr

And it's going to be a, tight race. The Chargers I don't I think they're out of it now. Right. Losing Joe out losing Rashawn Slater not having anybody to be able to block, Broncos edge rushers. I think they're out of it. It's going to be is going to definitely go down to the Chiefs and the Broncos and I think the Broncos definitely feel confident that they can get the job done.

00:23:51:02 - 00:24:11:05

Chris Harris Jr

But like I said, the offense got to pick it up. You're going to need more than ten points to be a Patrick Mahomes, led team. And Andy Andy Reid led team. And but schedule, like you said, is setting up perfect for them. And, I think they're I think they are in the playoffs. Right. Usually you win 9 to 10 games are in there.

00:24:11:07 - 00:24:25:11

Chris Harris Jr

I think the Broncos can win two more. I think they're locked in. So, now there's just, you know, winning a division, getting a higher seed, trying to get home field advantage. Right. To have opportunity to to be able to get those things.

00:24:25:14 - 00:24:48:17

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. And so I'm I'm trying to fine. So I'm going to send over this graphic to David to bring up because I want to hear from Bo because, you know, you look at where their offense is, is coming up short. I asked Bo the question because I heard the offensive guys. Mike wasn't the only talk like that. Dobbins to, you know, any offensive guy that spoke kind of said, we've got to help our defense out.

00:24:48:17 - 00:25:08:19

Brandon Krisztal

So I asked a couple of defensive players, Alex Singleton and Zach Allen specifically, hey, these guys know they're not in their mind holding up their end of the bargain. I mean, I don't think I'm being insulting. Ten points is not going to get it done. That's exactly what Mike said. What can you do as a defense. And Zach Allen was quick to say, hey, we can just keep giving them more opportunities and hopefully, you know, they'll they'll make plays.

00:25:08:19 - 00:25:26:08

Brandon Krisztal

But we believe in them. So there's there's no division there. The defense is happy with how they're playing. But so I asked Bo Nix I said look you know you're you're offensive. Guys are down on themselves. Defensive guys got your back. Are you someone who spends more time dwelling on what didn't go well or knowing that we played our best like they did?

00:25:26:10 - 00:25:48:29

Brandon Krisztal

Oh, we played our best and just wasn't good enough versus we left. We left some stuff out there. There's an opportunity to get a lot better. We're not playing our best consistently. They did against the by the Bengals I guess, and certainly against the Cowboys. And so then here was Bo's answer to that in terms of you know that that balance of are you down on yourself versus knowing we can be a lot better.

00:25:49:01 - 00:26:12:02

Speaker 4

I think you guys stay levelheaded. You got to understand that it is the NFL. And you know seven wins in a row is hard to come by. So you're doing something right. But at the same time you're also doing something wrong because there's plenty left on the table, I think. And you know, between penalties and just some, sluggish football, we're just not playing very good.

00:26:12:02 - 00:26:27:15

Speaker 4

And, starts for me. I got to be better. And then, the rest of the guys will follow along. But we got to find some some juice somewhere. We got to find something, and, especially against a good defense like that, there's there's plays to be had. We just got to find them.

00:26:27:18 - 00:26:47:00

Chris Harris Jr

Right. Need some juice, man? Like you said, need some juice? You know, I thought Harvey was going to be able to do that. We didn't really get them involved in the passing game. As much as I like, on the linebackers. But, you know, the Raiders are going to, you know, Joe Woods and those guys is going to have those the secondary playing well.

00:26:47:03 - 00:27:11:19

Chris Harris Jr

They're going to be well-coached. The Raiders defense, they try to come in and get it. Definitely, try to prove that they had better defense than, than the Broncos. And it was evident that they wanted to to try to do that. So but with both saying is that sluggish penalties, it means that's how you, that's how you, leading the league in punts.

00:27:11:21 - 00:27:29:26

Chris Harris Jr

That's why you're, you're not putting up the points that you want to do every week. So if we can eliminate those three right there, that's going to set them up to, you know, be that type of offense that they want to be in that's making plays. Big plays every week. Right. Play action run the football scoring game.

00:27:29:29 - 00:27:36:29

Chris Harris Jr

Everything that they want to do can happen. But you got to be locked in. They got to, come out with some more juice, like you said.

00:27:37:01 - 00:27:59:23

Brandon Krisztal

All right. And so I saw this yesterday on. And look, you were the first. As we've seen, the world of analytics explode in football. You were the first, I think superstar pro Football Focus, as they were becoming a company, I, I'm not saying they used you as, as, centerpiece. You were just playing so well and they would take us way deeper into the numbers.

00:27:59:23 - 00:28:22:10

Brandon Krisztal

And I think the casual football fan, because we could look and say, oh, who's leading league in punts? Who has the most sacks, who has the most interceptions. And so we've seen this explosion. So this is a stat that I saw yesterday or a graphic I saw yesterday from Ftnd. And, and it's the, the number of missed missed yards if you will.

00:28:22:10 - 00:28:44:08

Brandon Krisztal

So it's it's trying to explain yards that were available that are misses are uncatchable passes based on the target being open. So we can look at those couple of misses that Bo had watched against the Chargers. On the the one even on the fourth down, in in the game against the was at the the Titans.

00:28:44:11 - 00:28:44:21

Brandon Krisztal

Well.

00:28:44:21 - 00:28:45:12

Chris Harris Jr

I mean every game.

00:28:45:19 - 00:29:07:29

Brandon Krisztal

Every game. Right. So you look at that Bo is north of 700. That was before last night. Because this graphic was from yesterday. Cam Ward, a rookie, is now second. But he's a full 200 yards behind Bo. And you see Baker and Mahomes and Stroud and Penix guys that'll take shots. And Tebow's credit he has eight touchdowns over 20 yards.

00:29:08:02 - 00:29:28:02

Brandon Krisztal

And I think after that nobody has more than based on number of attempts. Mahomes has two less attempts 42 to 44, but only one touchdown over 20 yards. So Bo has hit on some. It's just how many open receivers he's missed when you see that, I guess. How alarming is it? Or is it okay. The guys are open.

00:29:28:02 - 00:29:31:27

Brandon Krisztal

He just needs to get it there. And you think he can.

00:29:32:00 - 00:29:48:15

Chris Harris Jr

It just tells me that it's often set up off big plays, right? Hit or miss. If you hit the big play, you know, bogus. The big stat, you know he's leading the league with downfield throws you know, or touchdowns. Right. But he's also going to be there with the misses. So we got to find a happy medium.

00:29:48:15 - 00:30:06:29

Chris Harris Jr

Let's find some intermediate game quick game. You know mid mid level throws. You know Peyton used to live in those world. He didn't just always take the deep shots right. He would pick them apart down the field Tom Brady pick them apart down the field. And it's okay doing that. Take them both teams give you.

00:30:07:01 - 00:30:22:05

Chris Harris Jr

And I think that's what Bo needs to do. You know, I think he sometimes must take the home run. And if he just takes what the defense gives him and just continue to stay above the sticks, and keep getting positive yards, I think he'll be okay.

00:30:22:07 - 00:30:40:27

Brandon Krisztal

Looking at the one positive I'll give you from the offense that jumps out or popped into my head is, you know, we talked about that eight game winning streak the Raiders had over the Broncos or eight game losing streak. Who was the main the main reason why the Raiders defense, destroyed the Broncos game after game in that streak.

00:30:40:29 - 00:30:42:19

Chris Harris Jr

I'll say probably Jacobs.

00:30:42:21 - 00:30:45:07

Brandon Krisztal

Well, I was just gonna say the other side of the ball. Max Crosby.

00:30:45:09 - 00:30:47:12

Chris Harris Jr

Crosby team. Yeah.

00:30:47:14 - 00:31:06:10

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, yeah, I mean, Jacobs is on the offensive side for sure, but Crosby was destroying, the Broncos game after game. Didn't matter who the quarterback was. Joe Flacco, Max Crosby helped get to the Pro Bowl every year on the back, of his games against the Broncos. Well, he didn't do much last night. I get the Broncos only scored ten points, so.

00:31:06:15 - 00:31:20:15

Brandon Krisztal

But no sacks. I don't know. I think it might add one pressure. Just, you know, thinking about what? You know, my eyes tell me or what I can remember. But the fact they were able to neutralize Max Crosby, that's the one positive I'll give them from last night.

00:31:20:17 - 00:31:32:06

Chris Harris Jr

Well, I mean, I would say Broncos right now. You know, McGlinchey is playing solid. This is probably his best year here as a Bronco. Miners. Is he okay? I gotta we gotta get that.

00:31:32:06 - 00:31:35:10

Brandon Krisztal

It was an illness. It was an illness. He finished the game. He came back in and finished the game.

00:31:35:13 - 00:31:55:06

Chris Harris Jr

Okay, okay, okay. Well, he's a dog, so he's probably the best guard in the league. One of the best guards. And then Bose is playing, like, the best tag on the league. So, the Broncos O-line is very polished. They're they're blocking pretty well. They're keeping Bo upright. I think leading the league in, sacks.

00:31:55:06 - 00:32:17:09

Chris Harris Jr

Right. Giving up sacks. Yep. So, hey, you know, I think Bo most definitely should be all pro first or second team. I got to check out the other tackles. But from what I'm saying, you know, he's definitely playing at a high level. McGlinchey. He's not playing bad. So, being able to keep Bo, clean is that's, that's going to be huge to get their offense to the next level.

00:32:17:10 - 00:32:29:00

Chris Harris Jr

That's something that they can you know, build off of. Offensive line is playing good. Right. Let's build off that and the plays and what we can continue to do to get positive yards.

00:32:29:03 - 00:32:45:14

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. You talk about bowls. I feel like every week I see that he's leading the league in terms of tackles. Not a lot. He hadn't allowed a sack. I don't even think he's hardly a lot of pressure. He's been he's been outstanding and worth the money that he got on his last contract and certainly worth what he's getting right now.

00:32:45:18 - 00:33:07:28

Brandon Krisztal

All right. As we flipped to the defense, we're gonna hop into the film room in a second. But I just appreciated this from Alec Singleton. And it is funny because you know how even though the locker room in this version in the Sean Payton world and I think even in Vick's world, it was mixed and matched, you weren't DBS like, because when you first got there, the DBS were, now, y'all, we're next to the receivers, just based on how the locker room was set up, which made for lots of good trash talk between you and.

00:33:07:29 - 00:33:09:29

Chris Harris Jr

All the other Tom.

00:33:10:01 - 00:33:27:24

Brandon Krisztal

But you were that transition to manual in D2 right there, which my favorite was after practice pulling up the iPad and then asking us, hey, who won this ref? Want this ref when you and you and to leave. We're going at it with E. But now I mean it is really mixed and match, which I think is good for team building, but on game day it is.

00:33:27:25 - 00:33:47:25

Brandon Krisztal

Offense is on one side. The offense is on one side mostly I think for halftime meetings and pre game meetings as much as anything. But so the defense they're all smiles. The offense happy they got the win. And so to go from the offensive side to you know we bounce back and forth based on who was talking Alex understandably he talked right after Jonathan Cooper because their lockers are near each other.

00:33:48:01 - 00:33:51:20

Brandon Krisztal

And and I appreciated this from the Broncos middle linebacker.

00:33:51:22 - 00:33:56:13

Chris Harris Jr

We're good I mean, we got the best defense in the league. We, we don't care.

00:33:56:15 - 00:34:07:13

Speaker 3

We're going to just, you know, keep going out on the field doing our thing. Give the offense as many opportunities as we can. But, yeah, you know, we have, we we just all enjoy playing football.

00:34:07:15 - 00:34:10:17

Brandon Krisztal

You appreciate that? We're the best defense in the league. And he's right.

00:34:10:19 - 00:34:30:06

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. And they're proven every week. Being able to, just go out there and do their job. Right. One focus is doing our job. As long as we can be the best defense on the field every week, right? Whoever the opponent it is, be better than them. Have more turnovers, get more sacks, whatever you can do to change the game.

00:34:30:09 - 00:34:50:12

Chris Harris Jr

And that's, that's what Alex and those guys are doing every week. And it seems like like the, like we said in the past, they have great relationships. These guys are, until you don't see them having a lot of, you know, miscommunications out there and, they're playing together. So regardless how they're getting it done, they're getting it done.

00:34:50:12 - 00:35:10:29

Chris Harris Jr

And it's hard to win seven games in a row in the NFL. So, I don't think people really, truly understand that, regards how they're getting it done. You know, it looks good on paper, right? First in AFC, first in the NFC West. You know, being able to get home field advantage at the Mile High.

00:35:11:02 - 00:35:17:00

Chris Harris Jr

You know, I love to be there for a home home field advantage. Playoff game. That'd be huge.

00:35:17:03 - 00:35:31:21

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. And they control their own destiny in that regard. And a win over the Chiefs will make it much more difficult for the Chiefs to catch them. You look at their their schedule Cleveland jump into the film room real quick. But just looking at their schedule. You know we mentioned how you get the Chiefs after the mini bye.

00:35:31:26 - 00:35:46:26

Brandon Krisztal

Then you get a real bye. You're at the commanders. Who knows if Jayden Daniels elbow works by then. This commander's team is is not what I think a lot of us thought they would be coming off last year, mostly because of injuries, not just Daniels. McClaren's barely been healthy. Debo hadn't done much. I know there's been,

00:35:47:03 - 00:36:06:27

Brandon Krisztal

They lose our guy, Austin Ekeler. You know who's one year old teammates and a Colorado kid. So got it. Got a shout him out. He's done for the year. And so and I'm sure there's a few that I oh no. Marshon Lattimore tears his knee. He's not over the year. So yeah it's winnable game for sure we know it's never easy on the road.

00:36:06:29 - 00:36:27:02

Brandon Krisztal

You get then some then a trip to the Raiders the next league. Winnable game home for two against the Jaguars and the Packers. Now I think it goes, any double check which one is 14th. Which one is 21st? Because then you get four days to Christmas. That's going to be a quick turnaround. I can double check it real quick.

00:36:27:04 - 00:36:51:12

Brandon Krisztal

But in general, and then after Christmas, you get another mini bye. Yeah. So it's Packers first, then Jaguars. And you don't know what you're I mean the Jaguars feel I mean they're better. But this going this gives it sets up for them to not only win the division but be battling jockeying for AFC. You know top spot second spot hosting 1 or 2 playoff games potentially.

00:36:51:14 - 00:37:06:19

Brandon Krisztal

And I think that that's all you can really ask for. Now you need to take care of business. But it's all in front of you because they've played so many road games. They played I think it was six games in 38 days or something like that, 6 or 7 games in 38 days. It's been, you know, it's been whirlwind.

00:37:06:19 - 00:37:17:27

Brandon Krisztal

And so, let's do this. So let's like we do every week and they're not, not a lot of, great things to pick from on the back end because I have crappy Geno Smith in that passing offense was.

00:37:17:27 - 00:37:19:11

Chris Harris Jr

But how was bad?

00:37:19:14 - 00:37:29:28

Brandon Krisztal

This is the best. This is the best part of the show in a lot of people's opinion. Let's hop into the Chris Harris film room.

00:37:30:00 - 00:37:39:08

Brandon Krisztal

As I mentioned, yeah, not not a lot going on in the secondary. So how about we start with what the pass rusher was doing. And maybe it's because the secondary was doing their job right here.

00:37:39:08 - 00:37:59:27

Chris Harris Jr

We call this like an odd front right. Broncos line and three defense to the left side. And they're doing that to be able to cause one on one in the pass protection from the Raiders. Right. Bonito comes off the ball one on one. No chip. And if you don't chip this guy, he's going to be able to get back there every time, right.

00:38:00:00 - 00:38:06:08

Chris Harris Jr

Can we get the. Can we get the little rewind right here? What the, who forgot?

00:38:06:10 - 00:38:12:17

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, we just thought about. Okay. Okay. So it's the next play is going to be the final play.

00:38:12:19 - 00:38:19:05

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah, but they're not chipping bonito. Yeah.

00:38:19:07 - 00:38:21:01

Brandon Krisztal

And then here comes the Vanga.

00:38:21:03 - 00:38:25:14

Chris Harris Jr

Right. That's the guy. Looks that Vance Joseph love to run.

00:38:25:16 - 00:38:28:00

Brandon Krisztal

Running the linebacker. Right.

00:38:28:02 - 00:38:45:08

Chris Harris Jr

Right. The running back just completely blows his assignment right here. Right. It's very simple. You you count the numbers and you all you has to do is block and forget. But this is the NFL. Sometimes guys do make mistakes, right? So when that happens we get a sack.

00:38:45:10 - 00:39:03:16

Brandon Krisztal

David calls that real quick for that. So I didn't realize that until they handed him the ball. Like I knew this in the off season. That running back that's not a rookie. That's a guy that had to block often go and practice. Raheem Mostert I think he doesn't want to miss an assignment, but I'm thinking part of it is like, I don't want to deal with this dude and I won't deal with 57.

00:39:03:16 - 00:39:06:23

Brandon Krisztal

I know, I know what it's like to have to deal with them in training camp.

00:39:06:26 - 00:39:19:00

Chris Harris Jr

Pass by him. Two this is a different look. Yeah. What are y'all if y'all real Bronco fans, what do you see different right here for what they're doing. Well has you.

00:39:19:02 - 00:39:22:11

Brandon Krisztal

I mean there's seven guys up front, but they're all across the front.

00:39:22:14 - 00:39:25:18

Chris Harris Jr

No, they always do that okay. Now what is it.

00:39:25:20 - 00:39:27:22

Brandon Krisztal

What is it that where the linebacker Cooper.

00:39:27:22 - 00:39:29:00

Chris Harris Jr

Where's Cooper at?

00:39:29:03 - 00:39:30:12

Brandon Krisztal

Cooper's inside.

00:39:30:14 - 00:39:39:09

Chris Harris Jr

He's inside now. Yeah yeah right. Creating different matchups. Right. Moving these guys around to, to create one on one matchups.

00:39:39:09 - 00:39:42:02

Brandon Krisztal

And that's Zach Allen on the outside now all the way.

00:39:42:02 - 00:40:05:06

Chris Harris Jr

Around the outside Kevin Rives is moving guys around giving him different looks. Right. Because you would think Cooper would be outside dropping right. But now he's inside. He's going to drop him back. So the Raiders just can't read it. He almost does Cooper interception. He oh he sees him fall back right. And he'll go with the reset.

00:40:05:09 - 00:40:16:00

Brandon Krisztal

All right let's keep it rolling. Because they had six sacks five in the first half which I think is the first time that's happened since 1998. Our third time.

00:40:16:03 - 00:40:19:15

Chris Harris Jr

You'll take game and just the boys up front the roach getting one.

00:40:19:22 - 00:40:21:27

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah that's Roach.

00:40:21:29 - 00:40:42:02

Chris Harris Jr

And Zach Allen should be all pro this year. Definitely. They definitely stole one from last year. But it's not that they got look turn to a four man pressure Bronco play coverage. Able to get there in the pass rush man John Franklin Meyers is having a great year. Cooper, all these guys up front are balling.

00:40:42:03 - 00:40:48:25

Chris Harris Jr

Tillman. Wrote everybody. So, I mean, the whole D-line is loaded.

00:40:48:27 - 00:41:03:14

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah Zach Allen post game. He's like, man, all these half sacks. He's like it's a good problem to have. But he was lamenting that his numbers, weren't as good as they could be. Now look, the guy just got paid again. So I don't think he's that worried. But it is funny right there.

00:41:03:14 - 00:41:14:27

Chris Harris Jr

That's why I look one on one. Yeah. That's awesome. Creating different one on one looks for all these guys. They're going to have to find a way to chip these boys. They're not Chip. No I don't want this.

00:41:14:27 - 00:41:31:06

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah we don't have to play here. But you know we're picking on most of it a little bit. One of the plays where Geno rolls out and just throws it in the dirt. You'll see on on on if you watch it on, on social media, bonito is unblocked. And you're asking gente as a rookie to get in front of them.

00:41:31:06 - 00:41:48:01

Brandon Krisztal

Benito just gives them a quick little jab step is right by him. And it forces Gino out and leads to not, you know, it's an incomplete pass, but asking a rookie running back to block Benito one on one coming off full speed. It's. Yeah. You're talking about the chip a chip at least gives the running back a chance to set.

00:41:48:03 - 00:42:10:27

Chris Harris Jr

Isn't that a kill? Right there. We're not going to let von get a clean start like that. Yeah, right. 1 or 2 guys and then a running back. Right. So, I don't know, the, the pressure that they're doing versus the Broncos is, you know, I'm confused on how they're attacking them with that, you know, letting Benito have one on one and then Allen have one on one.

00:42:11:00 - 00:42:27:10

Chris Harris Jr

And maybe it's some evangelism being of the scheme. Some things give them different, looks overload, looks double. Hey, gap looks to where? Hey, we can you don't know who you're going to have to block. And we're able to create one on one situations with what our passers.

00:42:27:12 - 00:42:49:16

Brandon Krisztal

There are some numbers from next gen stats, that I'm going to find real quick because Nick Benito reposted the the positive numbers about about him. He generated eight pressures. The second half on 24 pass rushes, six quick pressures. His average time to pressure was 2.0 for second fastest mark of the season. And that might be his.

00:42:49:16 - 00:42:54:03

Chris Harris Jr

Oh, well, they check that speed off the ball. Well, when I was playing.

00:42:54:06 - 00:42:58:11

Brandon Krisztal

Maybe towards the end of your career, I don't know if they were when Vaughn was in his prime, because if they were.

00:42:58:11 - 00:42:59:07

Chris Harris Jr

Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'd.

00:42:59:07 - 00:43:01:23

Brandon Krisztal

Love to know that number. But, you know, last year I.

00:43:01:23 - 00:43:25:01

Chris Harris Jr

Asked and don't reveal to. Yeah. No reveal. Got off the ball to. You know, I would love to see those two guys. Even an Aaron Donald. Who else used to come fast off the ball like that? Cliff Avril like. Yeah. Those boys is to come. And so but this guy right here, he definitely has to be the fastest in the league off the ball right now in the NFL.

00:43:25:04 - 00:43:44:24

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah I mean at 2.04 because they'll tell you you have 2.5 seconds max. Right. Normally I understand every now and then you get it. So the fact that he's at close to two seconds any time the snap count. Right. I don't know why didn't they didn't go hard. Count on him a couple times. You know, listening listening to Ryan Harris on the call.

00:43:44:24 - 00:44:01:25

Brandon Krisztal

He's like the Broncos have this timed up. They need to do something to throw him off. And they never did. And that to me that's on Chip Kelly and I guess on Geno and Pete to to not say something to say hey let's go on 2 or 3 or do something to try to get them because they're coming and they didn't care.

00:44:01:27 - 00:44:13:09

Brandon Krisztal

And so it's been fun to watch 45 sacks the most sacks by a team through ten games in NFL history. We know the set the all time record. You really want to do it in 16 games for it to really count.

00:44:13:12 - 00:44:13:28

Chris Harris Jr

Right?

00:44:14:01 - 00:44:30:00

Brandon Krisztal

I think they're they're obviously gonna have a great shot. To catch the 72 by the 85 bears. I think it was. But they if they can get there in 16 games, it'll be even cooler and then get to 7580 would be would just be a fun thing to hang their hat on. All right. We don't have.

00:44:30:00 - 00:44:31:28

Chris Harris Jr

A lot of our that now.

00:44:32:01 - 00:44:37:24

Brandon Krisztal

They're at 45 through ten games. So it's seven games left.

00:44:37:26 - 00:44:39:06

Chris Harris Jr

I think they can break it.

00:44:39:09 - 00:44:53:28

Brandon Krisztal

They're certainly going to come close. You know they're they're going to be playing against teams. That'll give you a chance. You know Patrick Mahomes for as good as he is he still gives you a chance to get to him as von And and you know that Jordan love is going to be back there on the ball Trevor Lawrence going to be throwing the ball.

00:44:54:02 - 00:44:57:08

Brandon Krisztal

You're going to see Geno in the Raiders again. Or ain't no Tom.

00:44:57:10 - 00:44:57:24

Chris Harris Jr

Dino.

00:44:57:28 - 00:44:59:12

Brandon Krisztal

Or Kenny Pickett in the Raiders.

00:44:59:12 - 00:45:02:09

Chris Harris Jr

I thought I got 5 or 2 Chargers. That's ten.

00:45:02:15 - 00:45:04:13

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah yeah they're they're going.

00:45:04:13 - 00:45:07:25

Chris Harris Jr

To be close. Like it's going to be I think they can get it.

00:45:07:27 - 00:45:11:06

Brandon Krisztal

And and who knows. You're going to get with the commanders. So yeah oh.

00:45:11:06 - 00:45:17:07

Chris Harris Jr

Five again 15. So that was this is 15 right there I 735.

00:45:17:07 - 00:45:34:26

Brandon Krisztal

So I could see the 80 if they if they get the, if they get five a game in the last seven and. Yeah. Like, so like I've said, like we've said there's not a lot to really write home about. They only completed four passes in the second half. But going into the game we know how explosive we think gente can be.

00:45:34:28 - 00:45:40:18

Brandon Krisztal

It was all about 89, especially with Jacoby Meyers. And how about the job they did on on the star tight end.

00:45:40:20 - 00:46:04:08

Chris Harris Jr

Being able to eliminate him? With the defensive scheme. You know, in the past, Vance Joseph system has gotten into by tight ends. Right. But they played a great game versus Bowers. Keep keeping you know, speed on him DBS he always had like a corner on him majority of time. Rarely as a, linebacker. If he did, it was shorter underneath routes and and that worked out great.

00:46:04:10 - 00:46:17:24

Chris Harris Jr

That worked out great with the game plan and one catch for 30 yards with this type of guy. That's a win all day. Well, this time right here. Yeah. Can we start that over?

00:46:17:27 - 00:46:44:08

Chris Harris Jr

Right here. We see where it. Man. I think they're in a double double. Right. And supposed to be really doubling Bowers. And the middle safety Jones is doubling J. Mack. Jaquan McMillan. And, right now, you know, Barron is playing outside leverage. He's thinking he's going to bring in, burrow. Bring in Bowers to, and just.

00:46:44:10 - 00:46:54:06

Chris Harris Jr

He's cutting the wrong guy, right? He's cutting, Moss. And I think he should be cutting his eyes on, on the tight end, which is the number one receiver.

00:46:54:06 - 00:46:54:29

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah.

00:46:55:01 - 00:46:57:16

Chris Harris Jr

He just runs past.

00:46:57:18 - 00:47:05:14

Brandon Krisztal

Even if he runs into him, it ends up being it's a five yard penalty versus it being a 30 yard gain or whatever it was.

00:47:05:16 - 00:47:22:20

Chris Harris Jr

And my dad's, reaction, he clearly thinks that Hufanga is going to be there. He's going to cut the tight end. He's not going to be helping Moss on a little five yard route. Right. Take over. You know, the deeper route, the more explosive guy. And you see him with the hands out man like.

00:47:22:21 - 00:47:31:23

Brandon Krisztal

Hey, he's a he's a rookie. But that's one. And we know he's probably been at the top of the list of mistakes made this year so far. But he looks at his guy, his captain, and is like, come on man, what's going.

00:47:31:23 - 00:47:50:13

Chris Harris Jr

On? Oh man. It's a great call by Vance Joseph because he hasn't been running these type of defenses right. He hasn't ran like a double double. So to be able to do this and kind of sprinkle something, a new type of covert screen scheme for those guys and make the quarterback find the open guy. Right. Make him find the right guy.

00:47:50:13 - 00:48:09:26

Chris Harris Jr

If he is right there, I guarantee he doesn't throw that right. So, that eliminates 30 yard pickup. So that's something they'll clean up next week and, have it ready to go because Kelsey, he's going to run the same route next week. Yeah. Going to be there is they're going to try. That's what Andy Reid does is he he does copycat plays.

00:48:09:28 - 00:48:21:04

Chris Harris Jr

And they're going to see that next week with Kelsey. And it's going to be a huge matchup right. Rookie versus Kelsey. That's a vet I mean I'm excited to see that matchup next week.

00:48:21:07 - 00:48:25:07

Brandon Krisztal

And maybe there's a scenario where he's healthy. So I guess I guess we'll find out if.

00:48:25:07 - 00:48:26:25

Chris Harris Jr

He's scheduled.

00:48:26:28 - 00:48:28:12

Brandon Krisztal

But but probably not.

00:48:28:15 - 00:48:32:23

Chris Harris Jr

He ain't coming back until they lose like probably two games in a row.

00:48:32:25 - 00:48:49:23

Brandon Krisztal

But he gets a bye week after the Chiefs do. So maybe we'll see him after Thanksgiving. You know, I realize you want it to be healthy because you need him down the stretch and and obviously into the playoffs. So the, stat I heard yesterday. And this just lets you know how kind of silly stats can be.

00:48:49:25 - 00:49:06:23

Brandon Krisztal

The Broncos are the worst defense in the league in yards per catch to tight ends. But when you think about that, Ferguson didn't have any I don't know if Schultz had any. You know the mayor kid had one last night, but Bauer's just just three targets, right? Is that the the lone catch?

00:49:06:27 - 00:49:08:00

Chris Harris Jr

Okay.

00:49:08:03 - 00:49:21:26

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. Another catch one handed as he was getting tackled early. That one. But you think about busted coverage against the Giants. Big touch on a tight end. Tip play to the to the other tight end. So the yards per catch. But that's.

00:49:21:28 - 00:49:23:15

Chris Harris Jr

Only got like five catches probably.

00:49:23:18 - 00:49:42:09

Brandon Krisztal

Right. And five catches for 120 yards. Yeah. But they have you know 30 targets and no catches. So I think that's where stats can kind of can kind of fool you. All right. Final thing we have for you in the film room talking about tight ends. I think maybe 92 should get a look at tight end with where the Broncos tight end room is.

00:49:42:09 - 00:49:43:00

Brandon Krisztal

How about this play?

00:49:43:01 - 00:49:55:22

Chris Harris Jr

Well, this is another, you know, blitz simulated blitz in which, Vance is dropping two is dropping two rushes. Hell of a return. Oh, he took a hit, man. I didn't see it. Yeah, he fell in.

00:49:55:24 - 00:49:57:06

Brandon Krisztal

There. Got mayor, got him there.

00:49:57:07 - 00:50:04:18

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Bears came back. Gray has, you know, I know Jones wanted that pick for sure.

00:50:04:20 - 00:50:16:03

Brandon Krisztal

Well, and we'll go back to the. Why the wide shot of it? Watch Alex Singleton signaling for him to come this way. And then Alex just tags one of the linemen.

00:50:16:06 - 00:50:21:10

Chris Harris Jr

I want to see that view again. Can we get that view on him running? But this guy's definitely played running back.

00:50:21:12 - 00:50:28:15

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah well he sees that. I asked him but here look at Alex. He's going. You can't see it. He's like come here, come here, come here. And then Alex just gets it.

00:50:28:15 - 00:50:48:21

Chris Harris Jr

Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about, Alex. But then, tell me, man, you gotta you gotta know where those guys are coming from behind you, man, because you come back and take a big hit to yourself. So nice offense. You know, being able to make a move right here. Got a good block. Who's that trying to hit him.

00:50:48:21 - 00:50:49:28

Chris Harris Jr

Was that Gino.

00:50:50:01 - 00:50:57:14

Brandon Krisztal

Maybe. Let's see as you know because this is before Gino got hurt.

00:50:57:17 - 00:51:01:22

Chris Harris Jr

Man, we can say it, but, hey, is this guy leading the team in interceptions?

00:51:01:23 - 00:51:11:11

Brandon Krisztal

He's leading the team in interceptions with two, which is certainly a point of contention, I'm sure, for Vance, but also for the entire defense. You know all those guys in.

00:51:11:11 - 00:51:22:00

Chris Harris Jr

Here that it, as a member of a no fly. If Von Miller and D-Wade had more interceptions than us, we went ahead and,

00:51:22:02 - 00:51:26:13

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. Or in this case, because of who Tillman is. Had Shaq Barrett been leading you all in there.

00:51:26:13 - 00:51:27:11

Chris Harris Jr

So sack bag.

00:51:27:11 - 00:51:45:09

Brandon Krisztal

Oh that's essentially what this is because Tillman comes in on the second group with Ellis. And Ellis did leave the game last night with a hamstring. So being down on the on the sideline and helping less than one out. You know I got to track injuries. And so it was his left leg. And you know he's in the tent.

00:51:45:09 - 00:52:03:14

Brandon Krisztal

You can't really see anything. But you can see the doctors you know trying to get him to flex his foot up. So it was a hamstring. And I saw miners come to the bench. Doc Garrity goes to talk to him. He goes into the locker room or whatever. Then they dog goes back with them. They're going to take this bag.

00:52:03:14 - 00:52:21:17

Brandon Krisztal

This yellow, red and black bag I know is in the bag. And I'm like, well equipment is in there. They don't. Then like two minutes later trainer different trainer grabs it and runs it back. And we get word he's got an illness. Okay. But then he comes back and he played the last year. So, and he was in the locker room getting dressed while we were talking to McGlinchey.

00:52:21:17 - 00:52:41:00

Brandon Krisztal

So, you hope that miners, whatever it was, is, you know, okay. There. But what I asked Tillman about. Hey, man, I know you said you'll do whatever the team needs. Would you go in and play tight end? He's like, I got tight end in my background. I'm. If I'm there, I'm like, hey, because Trautman doesn't do anything with the ball after the catch, he has no problem getting tackled.

00:52:41:03 - 00:52:44:04

Brandon Krisztal

Evan Engram apparently has forgotten how to catch the football.

00:52:44:06 - 00:53:02:19

Chris Harris Jr

It's crazy and D-line is the easiest position in the league, right? We just going to be real, right? You don't have to really know too much to be successful d linemen in the NFL, right? It's not a lot of film you got to tune in to. So he if somebody can't play both ways is a D line.

00:53:02:21 - 00:53:04:11

Chris Harris Jr

Right.

00:53:04:14 - 00:53:11:21

Brandon Krisztal

Well and look we saw it with receivers back in the day. Guys like Troy Brown. You know you play receiver and corner Travis Hunter you know I mean.

00:53:11:21 - 00:53:15:24

Chris Harris Jr

That's that takes a lot of smarts to be able to do that okay. All right I get.

00:53:15:24 - 00:53:17:02

Brandon Krisztal

I get it, I get it. But.

00:53:17:06 - 00:53:35:03

Chris Harris Jr

The linemen where you just they're just telling you go go rush the quarterback to, you know, now, hey, you got to run this route specific step. You know, it's probably even way more in that what's paid. All right. But tell me I think we can put a package, man. Give him a three play package. You know, especially in the red zone.

00:53:35:03 - 00:53:36:26

Chris Harris Jr

Let's get this guy involved.

00:53:36:28 - 00:53:38:10

Brandon Krisztal

00:53:38:12 - 00:53:40:14

Chris Harris Jr

Oh, he's mad at you, man. I didn't see that coming.

00:53:40:19 - 00:53:56:24

Brandon Krisztal

No. He's mad. He's mad. When you left, he was mad that you went to the Chargers. It wasn't 100%. It wasn't you saying I want to leave. I think it was a mutual like, hey Chris, it's been a good run. We we're not we're not bringing you back. Good luck. We'll see you at your Ring of Fame ceremony or in this case at the and last year.

00:53:57:00 - 00:53:58:29

Brandon Krisztal

And we'll see yours here in a couple of years.

00:53:59:02 - 00:54:08:06

Chris Harris Jr

Yes. It happens. It's a business. I mean, I went through this story many times is we didn't have the owners that we have. Now. I'm just saying keep it like that.

00:54:08:09 - 00:54:25:06

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, exactly. Exactly as much as you love the ball and family and all that. Yeah, it's a different it's a different situation. We saw that I don't know. Did you see this week? Because we're gonna get to our, look at the weekend real quick and get out of here. Yeah. Did you see the preliminary kind of drawings for the for the new stadium and how it's going to go?

00:54:25:06 - 00:54:40:05

Brandon Krisztal

I mean, I know showed you and because our studios are pretty close to to where Burnham Yard is just a couple blocks away. So I showed you when you were here a few weeks ago. But to see it like, because, you know, you can envision it, but then to see their idea, I think it's exciting.

00:54:40:07 - 00:55:01:18

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. It's going to be great for Denver. You know, adding more light. You know, we love, events and things like that, concerts and all types of stuff they're going to do. It's it's great to have those people, the owners, the Pindar group, all of them. They're in Denver. Right? They're actually going to be transferring and changing the city.

00:55:01:20 - 00:55:13:16

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. You know themselves. So, that's major to have those people there. The, the ownership group there, just for the city sake also. Right. It's going to help everybody.

00:55:13:18 - 00:55:30:03

Brandon Krisztal

Well, and I didn't ask you this, last week after you were here. But what did you think? As you saw the $300 million practice facility coming together and thinking about what that is and how how cool that would have been to to have when you were here.

00:55:30:06 - 00:55:43:06

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Man. Even when I was here, I always thought we had the best, some of the best facilities, regardless, you know, even when if you compare it to a lot of other teams around the league, the staff, even what we have now is still better than a lot of teams.

00:55:43:10 - 00:55:52:01

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. I mean, look, you went to L.A., they were in transition. They finally finished theirs. You went to the Saints. I know Sean made it better, but yeah.

00:55:52:03 - 00:56:14:19

Chris Harris Jr

I always thought Denver had it. Always thought we had a nice suit. Right? You know, they always, you know, I forgot the guy's name. Man, is is killing me right now. But he was always coming up with new plans and new things. That would be a chip. Chip? Yeah. Chip. Yeah, upgrades and things like that. And, now I, I and it makes sense though, because we used to have the whole, you know, organization.

00:56:14:19 - 00:56:31:25

Chris Harris Jr

They used to work downtown. Then we have everybody else is in the valley. So now you kind of bring everybody together, as one, you know, the weight room we used to have the we used to. I did hate doing this, though. I used to hate walking outside in that call to go to the weight room and walk it back.

00:56:31:27 - 00:56:52:07

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. I mean, look, looking at it now just to kind of talk people through this other than it doesn't say center because it's now Bronco's park powered by common spirit, but that's what it's going to look like. They, Damani Leech told me in passing yesterday that they've basically got all the the roof on, like everything's covered. That's going to be covered, like, as of this week.

00:56:52:09 - 00:57:15:14

Brandon Krisztal

But so if you look at it, you see that courtyard that is the third level, and that is where all the business folks will be. And so they bring in about 90, 100 people from downtown. And you not only create synergy, it also gives you more room. When you build the new stadium. You don't need to put a bunch of offices there that can be extra pregame, you know, Budweiser Club or whatever it is to make more money because their office is down.

00:57:15:19 - 00:57:40:16

Brandon Krisztal

So the whole first floor is all football, and the players can go right from the locker room, which is about there. On the middle field is where the locker room is, and the weight room is kind of in that area. It's attached to the fieldhouse. There's 55. I heard maybe they've changed the number going to be 55 spots underneath for the 58 for the 53 active players, coach, GM owner and maybe team present.

00:57:40:16 - 00:58:02:09

Brandon Krisztal

And that's it. Underneath parking that everybody else will park out out there. And then the second floor is, is coaches. And I think some of like the people, the VP's of the world and then everybody will eat in the same place, but then they can go, you know, like the business people eat while the football players are on the field or in meetings, but it's all going to be right there and obviously attached to the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse.

00:58:02:09 - 00:58:08:17

Brandon Krisztal

So they didn't they didn't touch it did open. Obviously when you were here, it's going to be it's going to be truly state of the art.

00:58:08:20 - 00:58:28:04

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. And I desire that, you know, being able to, you know, get a staple spot right there all in one inclusive. It's going to give those guys the best players to win. And, you know, definitely excited for those boys, man. They got a lot of they got a lot of things coming. And they're handling business on the field and too.

00:58:28:04 - 00:58:30:06

Chris Harris Jr

And, they just got to keep it going.

00:58:30:09 - 00:58:44:19

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, they're eight and two. Let's let's look at what's going on this weekend. So real quick, all because you see me wearing my Kansas shirt. You often are wearing your Kansas gear. Yeah Kansas football's at Arizona. But we're we're kind of, lukewarm on Kansas football despite the big 12 feeling a little bit right.

00:58:44:22 - 00:58:46:03

Chris Harris Jr

There's going to be a hard game.

00:58:46:06 - 00:59:05:16

Brandon Krisztal

No doubt, especially after scoring 52 on the bus. Which is a whole other conversation. I had a chance Sunday after the Texans game. I brought. I brought my little man, my seven year old Leo, to the Texans game. And then that was just convenient for travel because I did want to come back to Denver. And then Doug Gottlieb is one of my best friends, and he coaches at Wisconsin Green Bay.

00:59:05:18 - 00:59:33:12

Brandon Krisztal

So they open Bill self gave them a game where they pay green Bay 150 grand or whatever. That number is to come in. And basically Kansas gets a win. Doesn't always work. Like Boise State brings a school from Hawaii that is literally in a strip mall, and they come in and beat Boise. But anyway, yeah. So because Doug's the coach of the team and he's been one of my best friends for almost 30 years, we get to ride over to shootaround on the team bus and get to see all the museum stuff, and then he's getting a stretch with the team.

00:59:33:14 - 00:59:48:06

Brandon Krisztal

Then we go back on a team bus and we come back over the game on the team bus. Now we have they were green and white at University of Wisconsin Green Bay, but they're connected to the Oneida tribe. You know, those tribes in Wisconsin, those Native American tribes. So they have these special purple shirts. So I'm wearing one.

00:59:48:06 - 01:00:02:04

Brandon Krisztal

So it's my son. And it takes the one of my friends from Ku is calling the game, Steven Davis, whose dad, Bob Davis, a legend. He goes, yeah, I bet you never thought you'd be wearing purple inside Allen Fieldhouse. I'm like, oh man. And I saw Coach Self after the game was like, what is this? I was like, what Doug's team was wearing.

01:00:02:04 - 01:00:21:01

Brandon Krisztal

He's like, okay, you know, whatever. But so my kiddo is on the court. He's getting a warm up with the with the green Bay team. Then it starts to get crowded. So he's just kind of on the side, but he's all in. He's the first kid that's ever shown up at Allen Fieldhouse as a Jayhawk fan and left as a fan of the opponent.

01:00:21:03 - 01:00:34:11

Brandon Krisztal

He's like, I don't watch the Jayhawks the way, like he was mad. They want to kill you. We won by 43. I didn't. I was never worried. I would like to have seen a closer game, for Doug sake. And for those, you know, his team, it seems like a nice group of kids. They. They brought Leo in like he was part of the team.

01:00:34:11 - 01:00:51:08

Brandon Krisztal

He's in the team huddle pregame. It was great. But it's such a magical place. I don't know the last time you've been to the game. I mean, the game there since, You see, my my oldest behind me is 19. He was 9 or 10 in that picture with TW. My other ones weren't born like, oh, so you went last year?

01:00:51:09 - 01:00:51:23

Brandon Krisztal

01:00:51:26 - 01:01:10:07

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Yeah. I try to go once a year to, to try to, you know, stay active up there, man. They always take care of me, coach self. I used to catch them on the road, too. Yeah, I'll probably try to catch them when they play TCU. Yeah. Up here. That'll be a good game to go up there because I got to go see, is it Peterson or the dude.

01:01:10:11 - 01:01:30:00

Brandon Krisztal

So that's a we're going to say because that's what we're getting to before we get to our football games. Two and a half points Carolina is good game tonight. It's an early start if you're here. Well even where you are at 6:00 they're seven eastern 5:00 mountain time Kansas at Carolina Kansas has won eight straight against Carolina. Or I'm sorry, six straight, five straight.

01:01:30:00 - 01:01:50:14

Brandon Krisztal

But we're seven and six. All time are eight and seven. Whatever it is. Beat them in the championship. A couple years ago in 22. Beat them in the Final 4 in 2008. But they got a kid, Caleb Wilson, who's going to be a top pick. Yeah, I like Peterson at six five. And now other people are saying it because, you know, Doug Gottlieb in his post game, he goes, look, that's the best 18 year old I've seen since Kobe Bryant.

01:01:50:16 - 01:02:09:10

Brandon Krisztal

18 year old guard. He is smooth. He doesn't force anything. You know, the scrimmage against Louisville he hit six threes. But he also had six assists. He plays defense. He can get to the rack. He scored 21 on green Bay and then I guess cramped up a little. Never came back. And after about the 12 minute mark of the second half it was an easy 21.

01:02:09:10 - 01:02:29:03

Brandon Krisztal

And they were guarding him. They weren't open. You know, he wasn't just running around crazy. They were. He is the truth. And so it was like the nuggets brass was at the game last night. Their two games or whatever their titles are, Ben and Ben ten and John Wallace. And I was talking about mine. I was like, yeah, but you're not going to get like, no way like that dude is going number one, number two at worst.

01:02:29:03 - 01:02:30:24

Brandon Krisztal

But you got to go see him.

01:02:30:27 - 01:02:50:06

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah, I'm going to go see him. You know, just see it's his shot making ability. He can dunk, he can finish, he can play defense. He can pass. Definitely be a top three pick because boozer, I don't know how they're going to pass him on boozer. Right. Boozer down to average in 2020. You're right.

01:02:50:08 - 01:02:52:22

Brandon Krisztal

Boozer to start in the the bonds a kid at BYU.

01:02:52:22 - 01:02:59:04

Chris Harris Jr

It's be a third I would say RJ third I guess is closer.

01:02:59:06 - 01:02:59:28

Brandon Krisztal

And Peterson.

01:03:00:05 - 01:03:01:05

Chris Harris Jr

Going above him, I.

01:03:01:05 - 01:03:17:05

Brandon Krisztal

Guess it just, So it's funny about Peterson real quick. So final thing on this, you know, you want to be on the opposite side of your bench. And so Ku gets out there later, they're warming up, and I start walking through just like by the scoreboard. I don't even in their way. But they kind of do the stretches all the way to the scoreboard.

01:03:17:07 - 01:03:31:13

Brandon Krisztal

NDP kind of like high five. He high fives my kid as he walks by the knee high fives me and he's like, oh man, I thought you were with us. I go, oh no, I am. I'm a I'm a Jayhawk grad. I'm like my friends a coach goes, oh, okay. So yeah. So we were all good there.

01:03:31:16 - 01:03:42:12

Brandon Krisztal

I just pulled up the Kansas schedule just to see. Now they're here against the the buffs on the 20th. Not that you'd want to be here in January, necessarily, but they looked.

01:03:42:12 - 01:03:44:20

Chris Harris Jr

At a guy to. That's supposed to. Yeah.

01:03:44:22 - 01:03:55:02

Brandon Krisztal

Their point guard is pretty, pretty good. How about this or not at TCU. So you're going to have to go to are they even at Oklahoma State for you Wednesday, February 18th. You're gonna have to shoot up to Stillwater I think.

01:03:55:05 - 01:03:57:02

Chris Harris Jr

They and they don't play TCU this year.

01:03:57:04 - 01:04:00:09

Brandon Krisztal

They do in in in Lawrence because there's so many damn teams in the big.

01:04:00:09 - 01:04:02:03

Chris Harris Jr

12 about Houston.

01:04:02:05 - 01:04:08:13

Brandon Krisztal

They play Houston. Yep. Monday, February 23rd. So a couple weeks after the Super Bowl you.

01:04:08:13 - 01:04:09:02

Chris Harris Jr

Can Houston.

01:04:09:05 - 01:04:13:29

Brandon Krisztal

Fly down to H-Town. I mean, it's the same drive as Stillwater clutch as far as last name.

01:04:14:00 - 01:04:15:09

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah. Yeah. That's why I say.

01:04:15:11 - 01:04:18:04

Brandon Krisztal

In Stillwater, you can, you know, see friends. And I'm gonna tell you.

01:04:18:04 - 01:04:19:25

Chris Harris Jr

I love the more Love and Stillwater for sure.

01:04:20:03 - 01:04:32:09

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. Well, because people may not know this, including David, our producer, and I'm sure he's ready for us to get our picks and get that guy out of here. You were offered a scholarship to go hoop for Sean Sutton, at Oklahoma State.

01:04:32:13 - 01:04:39:12

Chris Harris Jr

Yep. Yeah, man. But I was already committed to Kansas. Play football. I kind of just said, nah, I'm a stable football.

01:04:39:12 - 01:04:44:16

Brandon Krisztal

And did you guys was asking I hey, Coach Self, can I come try out? I can guard Aaron Miles.

01:04:44:19 - 01:04:46:05

Chris Harris Jr

Man we didn't know.

01:04:46:05 - 01:04:48:06

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah I guess 100 miles. It was Sharon.

01:04:48:06 - 01:04:53:11

Chris Harris Jr

Cobb. Mario. We had, Mario Thomas, Sharon Collins. You got to get.

01:04:53:11 - 01:04:53:25

Brandon Krisztal

Those dudes in.

01:04:53:25 - 01:04:55:26

Chris Harris Jr

Front of. I want to read you.

01:04:55:26 - 01:04:57:04

Brandon Krisztal

Definitely. Look, get Tyra Reid in front.

01:04:57:09 - 01:05:15:27

Chris Harris Jr

You know, obviously, now we have. That's when I put it to Kansas. It wasn't. No. You know, my big brother was Darnell Jackson. Yeah, that's my big bro. You know, d that coming from Oklahoma City. That was my guy. So, him, he always took care of me. Rio. Those are. Those are my big brother. Something.

01:05:15:28 - 01:05:20:22

Brandon Krisztal

Did you ever play pickup with them, though? Would you ever go to field house and play pickup or to the practice center?

01:05:20:24 - 01:05:31:27

Chris Harris Jr

And it wasn't playing too much. Those guys weren't, the boys twins were. They hooked a lot over there. Roderick Stewart used to hoop a lot over there. How's who else?

01:05:31:29 - 01:05:33:21

Brandon Krisztal

Morris twins are not well liked in that price.

01:05:33:21 - 01:05:44:03

Chris Harris Jr

Nine times now. Went up a little bit. Tyson. Taylor. Yeah. But the more Swedes lived over there, bro, they ours. They were always hooping. Yeah. Right.

01:05:44:05 - 01:05:46:07

Brandon Krisztal

And Elijah. Elijah Johnson to.

01:05:46:09 - 01:05:47:16

Chris Harris Jr

Elijah.

01:05:47:18 - 01:06:10:15

Brandon Krisztal

Elijah. Godfather. Here's a fun fact. Tie it back to football. Elijah Johnson's godfather. Same godfather Patrick Mahomes. They both let Troy Hawkins who's your neighbor essentially he's one down away la Troy because he played with Pat senior. It's past godfather and his best friend growing up is Elijah Johnson's. Got, Elijah Johnson's dad. So his two got got sons.

01:06:10:15 - 01:06:21:11

Brandon Krisztal

One played in the national title game, and the other one's the best quarterback in the NFL. Anyway, so fun facts there. Let's look at oh, so Kansas, two and a half point dogs. Do you think we go in there and win tonight.

01:06:21:11 - 01:06:28:17

Chris Harris Jr

And Carolina it's going to be on the bigs right off. Our big boys can continue to play good I think we got one athletic big.

01:06:28:19 - 01:06:30:25

Brandon Krisztal

Well two I think with 15 the freshman is coming two.

01:06:30:25 - 01:06:46:29

Chris Harris Jr

Oh yeah yeah he's solid too. You know got to be able to play big boy ball with the with North Carolina. They got they're very physical. They got big guys. They can score in the paint as well. So I think that's going to come out, you know Peterson you know, hitting a lot of threes first to win the game.

01:06:47:02 - 01:07:02:04

Brandon Krisztal

And I don't know if Steph Curry is playing tonight. But since we're talking hoops nuggets Warriors in a Cup game. So that means funky court 8:00 tip Steph just missed the game of the day I guess Marcus Smart tried to another Oklahoma State guy. I tried to pull his arm out of a socket. So Steph doesn't go.

01:07:02:04 - 01:07:11:27

Brandon Krisztal

And Jimmy Butler sat two. So nuggets are nine and a half point favorites. Nuggets to the nuggets. Yeah. How about Joker the other night 3033 1615. He's he's unbelievable.

01:07:11:29 - 01:07:25:00

Chris Harris Jr

Joker doesn't win MVP. Is this purely off this. Hey I mean nobody's number. Well he might be in that Kobe time LeBron time where you know hey we know your numbers are going to be crazy. And we're just not going to give you the MVP.

01:07:25:04 - 01:07:38:05

Brandon Krisztal

It feels like for him to get the MVP they probably have to win the West. Because if they win the West any of those crazy numbers, it'd be hard to say. He's not the the MVP. All right let's let's look at these handful of football games. So we'll go window by window. We have to do a lot on the game.

01:07:38:05 - 01:07:53:13

Brandon Krisztal

But it is cool because I didn't see an NFL network in Berlin. First game in Berlin after two awesome games in Munich. Falcons are six and half point dogs to the Colts, who did not want to play the Broncos there because they knew there'd be more Broncos fans. But you are you going to be up early? 830 kick your time.

01:07:53:13 - 01:07:58:13

Brandon Krisztal

730 here for South Falcons Colts. You can catch that one. Maybe you get second half.

01:07:58:19 - 01:08:01:07

Chris Harris Jr

I want to see I want to see the South addition.

01:08:01:11 - 01:08:05:12

Brandon Krisztal

Oh yeah right. We can talk about that sauce is a is a cold.

01:08:05:14 - 01:08:23:15

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah I want to see that sauce addition. You know into the, you know, into their defense and how they play. And, it's going to be a huge game. The Colts, you know, if they're going to be able to, you know, stay in first place or, you know, drop second, it's a big game, for placement.

01:08:23:15 - 01:08:27:22

Chris Harris Jr

So, I'll be, you know, I'm gonna go with the Colts. Win this.

01:08:27:24 - 01:08:29:10

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. You got little kids like.

01:08:29:13 - 01:08:38:22

Chris Harris Jr

I think I. I need you to pick it up, though, because you're killing my fantasy, right now, so I need you. I need some yardage, man. I need some big games like you had earlier. Misses.

01:08:38:24 - 01:09:00:12

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. So. So I'm looking at that message to be John. Or if he's watching, this show this week. Okay. The best game. The early window for me is the three win Ravens at the Hot Vikes and JJ McCarthy. Ravens are four point favorites in Minnesota because they're getting healthy. And and Minnesota I get it was a big win.

01:09:00:12 - 01:09:10:26

Brandon Krisztal

But division win in Detroit. You know these division teams know each other I don't I don't hate this line I I like the Ravens to win it I don't know if they cover but I don't mind them being the favorite.

01:09:10:28 - 01:09:32:00

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah they're looking at JJ McCarthy versus Lamar Jackson. And I, I'm not really sold on the Ravens yet. Of course I think they played a solid game last week. I'm gonna go with the Vikings. I'm sorry if they beat the Vikings and they and they're able to have a good game versus Brian Flores defense. And I'll join in the bandwagon after this.

01:09:32:04 - 01:09:41:16

Brandon Krisztal

Here's here's your schedule. So Minnesota at Cleveland as much as we love Shelby in that defense. And we know it's division game. But at Cleveland and Dillon Gabriel for now let's.

01:09:41:18 - 01:09:42:19

Chris Harris Jr

Wait for them.

01:09:42:21 - 01:09:54:09

Brandon Krisztal

Host the Jets who don't have their two best players. Now they traded or two of their four best. Then they host Cincinnati Joe Flacco coming home to Baltimore like he did with the Browns at one time.

01:09:54:09 - 01:09:55:26

Chris Harris Jr

I think we could lose that game.

01:09:55:28 - 01:09:57:28

Brandon Krisztal

Oh for sure. But they could also win it.

01:09:58:00 - 01:09:58:17

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah.

01:09:58:17 - 01:10:13:12

Brandon Krisztal

But yeah they host the Steelers. So again in Baltimore we know those games are always close. Then at Cincinnati I'm just saying they could go from three and five to to seven and five. And it won't surprise anyone. We talk about Minnesota Cleveland New York.

01:10:13:14 - 01:10:32:13

Chris Harris Jr

This is all going to depend on Rogers and the Steelers. Yeah, right. Man Rogers and the Steelers can handle business. They can control their own destiny. They win that division. You know, I don't, it's going to be tough for the Ravens to make the playoffs. They might sneak in as a wildcard. Because we've seen times three teams have made it.

01:10:32:13 - 01:10:41:14

Chris Harris Jr

Two teams have made it in division. But I for sure see, the Colts, Broncos, Steelers. Who else we got?

01:10:41:16 - 01:10:44:25

Brandon Krisztal

Unless the math doesn't work out for him. But.

01:10:44:28 - 01:10:51:21

Chris Harris Jr

The Chiefs that's going. It's this gonna depend on next week if they beat the Broncos, if they can beat up.

01:10:51:23 - 01:10:53:09

Brandon Krisztal

Division winners or playoffs.

01:10:53:12 - 01:10:58:01

Chris Harris Jr

Just playoffs. Yeah. They're not set in the playoffs yet to me.

01:10:58:03 - 01:11:01:10

Brandon Krisztal

Well, here I can give you the standings super fast.

01:11:01:13 - 01:11:04:28

Chris Harris Jr

But the AFC is just down here.

01:11:05:01 - 01:11:11:01

Brandon Krisztal

Conference standings today Denver with eight wins is number one. Indy and New England. Obviously Indy has a tiebreaker over.

01:11:11:01 - 01:11:11:29

Chris Harris Jr

The bye bye.

01:11:12:01 - 01:11:26:00

Brandon Krisztal

That won't change if their whether if their record stays the same then Pittsburgh like you mentioned Buffalo six and two. Chargers six and three. Jacksonville five and three Kansas City five and four. Then Houston Baltimore at three and five each. And then I'm.

01:11:26:04 - 01:11:28:12

Chris Harris Jr

Gonna I'm saying it's not a.

01:11:28:15 - 01:11:29:15

Brandon Krisztal

No. It's not a.

01:11:29:17 - 01:11:40:09

Chris Harris Jr

Three. Yeah. It's not a lock case here is not a lock for the Ravens. So who's to say that those teams ahead of them don't keep playing solid football and real quick yeah.

01:11:40:16 - 01:12:04:16

Brandon Krisztal

Sorry. No. They play the Colts in two weeks. So they get the Broncos and Colts. Chiefs are going to be tested here back to back weeks. They're in Denver. Then they come home to host the Colts. Then they're at the Cowboys. And the it's Patrick going home to Dallas and all that. But you know the Cowboys in theory are better at they weren't then they then they host the Texans host the Chargers at Tennessee a win host the Broncos finish up in Vegas.

01:12:04:19 - 01:12:12:09

Chris Harris Jr

We can't forget about the bills and the Patriots right. That's going to be a tough race that's going to go down to the end. Yeah coming out of that division.

01:12:12:11 - 01:12:12:28

Brandon Krisztal

Yep I.

01:12:12:28 - 01:12:13:15

Chris Harris Jr

Think you're you're.

01:12:13:15 - 01:12:13:27

Brandon Krisztal

100%.

01:12:13:27 - 01:12:31:05

Chris Harris Jr

Right right. Maybe 2 or 3 coming out of AFC West. So it's going to be interesting. Right now it could possibly be the Broncos in the Chiefs second round in the playoffs. Yeah. Why. You know if they if they sneak in. Well there's also.

01:12:31:07 - 01:12:35:26

Brandon Krisztal

Let's no let's go another direction. It could be Broncos Chiefs in the first round.

01:12:35:27 - 01:12:37:03

Chris Harris Jr

First round where.

01:12:37:03 - 01:12:47:10

Brandon Krisztal

If the Broncos you know they're second or third and the Chiefs are what fifth or sixth all of a sudden. Yeah. Then you're playing them or I guess 6 or 7. Sorry.

01:12:47:16 - 01:12:48:17

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah.

01:12:48:19 - 01:13:06:29

Brandon Krisztal

Or fourth or fifth. Right. If the Broncos somehow slide but win the division or vice versa. Yeah. We could absolutely see Broncos Chiefs in, in the opening round or definitely the second round. But I know this the a lot better if that game was at Mile High. Well yeah refs or otherwise. But man, I can't.

01:13:07:00 - 01:13:20:12

Chris Harris Jr

There's no more home field advantage for KC, right? They gotta go win on the road. We haven't seen them go in the playoffs and went on well they did last year. They won in Boston finally. But other than that they had.

01:13:20:14 - 01:13:22:23

Brandon Krisztal

They won in Buffalo and Baltimore last year I think.

01:13:22:25 - 01:13:37:26

Chris Harris Jr

Yes they did. Yeah. They went to Baltimore. So last year the only exception. Right. Oh, they can do it again. And it caught up to them in the Super Bowl and they got smacked. So I don't think they can do it again. They got to have that home field advantage and they're not going to have it anymore.

01:13:37:26 - 01:13:48:25

Chris Harris Jr

So Mile High is going to have an advantage. It's tough to go to Indian win. It's always been tough to go there and win. So I don't think people want any. They get the number one seed either.

01:13:48:28 - 01:13:56:11

Brandon Krisztal

No, I I think so. I think you're right. Although if you had the choice to go to India, go to New England at least. Indy the weather be good.

01:13:56:13 - 01:13:57:29

Chris Harris Jr

I'm going to India.

01:13:58:01 - 01:14:02:28

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. Also, the times that you've gone to Indy, most of that time, Peyton Manning was there. And even Andrew Luck was there.

01:14:02:28 - 01:14:06:18

Chris Harris Jr

So right there I don't.

01:14:06:20 - 01:14:07:29

Chris Harris Jr

I don't think I ever won a game there.

01:14:07:29 - 01:14:09:16

Brandon Krisztal

So no, well.

01:14:09:19 - 01:14:11:22

Chris Harris Jr

I don't I gotta go back and look at my you.

01:14:11:22 - 01:14:16:08

Brandon Krisztal

Definitely didn't win, Joe Flacco's last game there thanks to Jacoby Brissett. Vonn almost. Adam.

01:14:16:10 - 01:14:17:07

Chris Harris Jr

Yes.

01:14:17:10 - 01:14:31:01

Brandon Krisztal

And then that was Joe Flacco's last game as a Bronco because his neck was hurt. But let's play these last couple games to get the heck out of here. Because so that's the best game. So who's winning Ravens. Vikes I'm taking the Ravens and.

01:14:31:03 - 01:14:31:26

Chris Harris Jr

I got the Vikings.

01:14:32:04 - 01:14:41:28

Brandon Krisztal

Okay. The best game in the afternoon. Rams are four and a half point favorites at the Niners. And the Rams obviously playing really good ball. And Puka is healthy.

01:14:41:28 - 01:14:46:19

Chris Harris Jr

No I'm gonna go with the Rams. The Niners I think their injury woes start to creep up on them now.

01:14:46:20 - 01:15:05:08

Brandon Krisztal

As against a really good team I know that Kyle and Sean obviously have a great relationship, great back and forth where the series of them will ship. I'm with you. I think the Rams win that game. It won't blow my mind if the Niners somehow pull it out, but I think the Rams win that game. I think they cover I think the Rams could be the NFC Super Bowl representative pretty easy.

01:15:05:08 - 01:15:23:19

Brandon Krisztal

Oh I say easily but like it. It's not that much of a surprise okay. The night game we talked about the Steelers their two and a half point dogs. Despite having TJ Watt and those dudes on that defense against the Chargers. Backup tackles. No more Joe. All he's done for the year. Of course we know Slater like you mentioned earlier he's done for the year.

01:15:23:22 - 01:15:37:18

Brandon Krisztal

But the Chargers still two and a half point favorite. We're the other thing. We're not talking about when they go to that wide shot on Sunday Night Football. It's going to look like a Steelers home game. There will be every Steelers fan that's west of Denver is going to be at that game. And some are probably flying out from other.

01:15:37:21 - 01:15:43:02

Brandon Krisztal

Well I say flying out. Maybe driving out with, where things are right now with airports.

01:15:43:05 - 01:15:45:24

Chris Harris Jr

I mean, you you still hear them in the Mile High.

01:15:45:27 - 01:15:46:28

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah, right.

01:15:47:00 - 01:16:06:16

Chris Harris Jr

They had a presence in the Mile High, so I know for sure they're going to be deep in SoFi. So I, I'm gonna go with the Chargers on this one. No. Okay. I think, everybody at home has been playing. Excellent. Very good. So, he's a great. Yeah, I think he's going to continue to play very good.

01:16:06:19 - 01:16:12:16

Chris Harris Jr

Regardless of the rush this week. And I think they they're able to steal one from the Steelers this week.

01:16:12:19 - 01:16:27:15

Brandon Krisztal

I don't think they're going to win the division because the Broncos and Chiefs I think will make things too tough if the Chargers can win the division, even if they're the third seed in the AFC, I'm gonna have a hard time not voting. Justin Herbert, my MVP. I don't have a vote, but you know, at least conversation point.

01:16:27:18 - 01:16:30:05

Chris Harris Jr

Yeah, it'd be hard right now with the way Stafford is doing.

01:16:30:11 - 01:16:41:22

Brandon Krisztal

Sure. But it's never wins the division like you have Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and tackles. He's got Ladd McConkey Johnston rookie running back. It's rookie.

01:16:41:22 - 01:16:42:25

Chris Harris Jr

Tight end rookie.

01:16:42:25 - 01:17:02:23

Brandon Krisztal

Tight end. He didn't have he didn't have Kyren Williams behind him a Pro Bowl running back yet and had tons and banged up. So all right. And then I think probably the game of the week. And you can tell by the way Vegas set the line. Packers are a one point favorite at Lambeau. I'll check the weather real quick against the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles.

01:17:02:25 - 01:17:14:07

Brandon Krisztal

So I think one point favorite at home at Lambeau almost feels like a pick'em. So how do you how do you see it shaking out as I as I get our weather report for Lambeau.

01:17:14:09 - 01:17:31:14

Chris Harris Jr

This is a tough one. I'm gonna go with the Packers. Okay? I'm gonna go with the Packers. I think they're able to stop the run. It has some big plays in the air. Jordan Love and Micah Parsons bring that rush. It's gonna be tough, man. But I'm going to go with the Packers at home.

01:17:31:16 - 01:17:43:13

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah I like the Packers at home too. And this is where Micah Parsons Pennsylvania native, has had plenty of success against the Eagles individually. Getting to get to Jalen over the years. We'll see if Saquon can start to come out.

01:17:43:13 - 01:17:47:20

Chris Harris Jr

I don't like how the Packers have been playing on. I don't like the line.

01:17:47:20 - 01:17:49:10

Brandon Krisztal

They just lost to the Panthers.

01:17:49:12 - 01:17:53:22

Chris Harris Jr

That was a bad, very bad loss, right? Good teams don't lose those type of games.

01:17:53:24 - 01:17:57:26

Brandon Krisztal

Boy be man be Matt. Keep his job this week.

01:17:57:28 - 01:18:00:23

Chris Harris Jr

Be Mac has not been kicking very well right.

01:18:00:25 - 01:18:05:23

Brandon Krisztal

Kicks and he's missed. He's missed six and he's and he missed two games right.

01:18:05:23 - 01:18:19:21

Chris Harris Jr

So you know if he makes those kicks maybe the Packers you know six and one right now. But actually I'm gonna switch my pick I'm gonna go with the Eagles. This team I think I forgot me Mac has been he had been hot right now it's I.

01:18:19:21 - 01:18:41:20

Brandon Krisztal

Oh and so I looked at the weather. One snowflake on the weather forecast, 35 on Sunday night. Monday. No snow, just partly cloudy. Obviously it's nighttime, 37 for a high, 23 for a low. It's going to be a little chilly, especially if that wind picks up there at Lambeau. But not frigid. Frigid, not crazy weather. So weather I don't think will be truly a factor.

01:18:41:20 - 01:18:48:16

Brandon Krisztal

Some guys will have sleeves. Tough guys won't. Of course, a lineman won't. But I'm going to go Packers.

01:18:48:19 - 01:18:51:18

Chris Harris Jr

You know one package. All right Robert the Eagles man.

01:18:51:20 - 01:19:11:11

Brandon Krisztal

Well I thought with no behind enemy lines no injuries really talk about we'd fly through this instead. It was a long a show we've ever done. But this is a lot of fun, David. Killing it on the other side. He's he worked well into the night and early this morning, getting things ready for the cold tub with Jake the snake plumber and Nate Jackson and getting stuff ready for us.

01:19:11:11 - 01:19:29:21

Brandon Krisztal

So it has been a blast. So thank you, David. Chris, always a pleasure. Thanks to everybody for listening. The handful people that that chimed in and and tell your friends about about this, about this show and football Fridays to be talking tough about the Chiefs. David asked us to talk about the Chiefs. I think you got plenty of.

01:19:29:21 - 01:19:40:03

Brandon Krisztal

Yeah. I think we will find some stuff on the Chiefs. But we will get you ready for Broncos chiefs a week from today. Chris. The Broncos got a win so you can enjoy your weekend. Not having to stress about.

01:19:40:03 - 01:19:53:03

Chris Harris Jr

Oh, we got to. Well, my Jayhawks got a, you know, put a good performance against Arizona. I'd love to see Arizona's playing some good ball. You know they put on a show versus Colorado last week. So they're not going to beat us like that. No I'm not I.

01:19:53:07 - 01:20:00:06

Brandon Krisztal

Won't be 52 to 17 or whatever. But hope which wasn't that. Was that the score? I'm pretty sure that was the score of Super.

01:20:00:06 - 01:20:01:02

Chris Harris Jr

Bowl.

01:20:01:05 - 01:20:04:11

Brandon Krisztal

27 when the Cowboys beat the bills.

01:20:04:14 - 01:20:09:15

Chris Harris Jr

There's only got some dogs out there in the land. I'm not sleeping on a Monday. Hopefully the Jayhawks are not.

01:20:09:16 - 01:20:28:19

Brandon Krisztal

Either 52 to 17. And that was definitely the score of Super Bowl 27. You know, look at it just for fun. Yeah. Super Bowl 27. Cowboys over the bills by a score of 52 to 17. I was with Marvel and Dave Logan could pull stuff like that out. And hey, I did it.

01:20:28:19 - 01:20:32:00

Chris Harris Jr

Logan is a legend. Meme Encyclopedia.

01:20:32:04 - 01:20:48:11

Brandon Krisztal

601 games. Now he's called for the Broncos again. Him cool game ball for 600 last night was 601. Shout out to Dave Logan. Shout out to you for hanging out with us Chris I will see you on Friday. And of course Tuesday. You will be with Ryan Harris and Shelby Harris. Make sure y'all are checking out where the Harris is and everything we're doing here at Gorilla Sports.

01:20:48:11 - 01:20:52:08

Brandon Krisztal
